This piece showcases a stylized interpretation of a Malabar giant squirrel, focusing on texture refinement, look development, and detailed groom work.
I was responsible for all texturing, lookdev, and groom tweaking.
Using Mari, I hand-painted the textures and on top of added details from procedural map and created secondary map like SPCR and DISP and matte also. For groom to capture a rich blend of purples, blues, and natural fur tones, pushing for a vibrant but believable aesthetic. The groom was created by artist "Vinayak Patwariya" in Houdini, with careful attention to fur direction, clumping, softness, and silhouette breakup. Final look development and rendering were done in Houdini Solaris with Pxr RenderMan, dialing in shader response, subsurface qualities, fur shading, and final lighting integration.
I got this base mode from online.
My goal was to achieve a visually striking yet natural creature, blending realism with stylized coloration while keeping the model grounded in a believable forest environment.
